Twice as Nice
One of Sennet’s favorite baseball players (outside of the Mariners, of course) is David Ortiz (Big Papi) of the Boston Red Sox. Ortiz is retiring after this season (his 19th). Last week we got tickets to the second game of the Sox 4-night series with us on August 2nd. Pretty good seats, down the first base line a few rows up.
The Mariners had lost the first game, and weren’t looking good for the second. We were down 0-4 going into the eighth inning. Catcher Mike Zunino started things off for us with a solo home run. Then we had 3 straight singles, including an RBI single by Guillermo Heredia that drove in Martin. Then Robinson Cano came up to bat and belted a 3-run homer and just like that we were suddenly up 5-4. Top of the ninth we had our new closer, Edwin Diaz come in and struck out all three batters – game over!
The next day one of Stacie’s co-workers said she’d sell us her tickets for that night’s game, so we decided to do two nights in a row. These seats were even better, down the third base side, several rows back, right where the ball-girl sits. This game wasn’t as nerve-wracking, as Adam Lind, Nelson Cruz, and Mike Zunino (again!) all hit solo home runs, in the 2nd, 6th, and 7th innings respectively. Our Pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma threw 7-1/3 innings and got the win, after Diaz came in again the ninth and got the save. Mariners 3-1 over the Sox.
Sennet is over dad taking pictures at all the games…
