Sennet Goes Solo
I took Sennet out to the Velodrome at Marymoor Park in Redmond on Saturday night for “Starcrossed,” the seasonal kick-off of the Cyclocross Race Series. We sat up in the Velodrome and watched some of the early races, then went down “into the pits” to where the Raleigh racers were getting ready. A handful of guys from the office were racing and we talked to a few of them.
We had brought Sennet’s pedal bike with us, and after a while he said he wanted to go ride. A huge area of the parking lot was closed off to cars, as part of the race course crossed it, and in other areas people were warming up. A ton of kids were on bikes too. Pretty fun.
After helping Sennet get started a few times, I had him watch some of the other kids and how they were able to start themselves without help from anyone. I told him you just had to “push, push, push” with your feet on the ground to get rolling, then “pedal, pedal, pedal” to keep riding. He said, “I want to do that.”
And so he did! For the next hour…
“Yee-Haw!”
