Cajun sick day
Sennet coughed and sniffled all night long last night, so we kept him home from school today. He actually didn’t seem to feel too bad during the day, but we thought we’d just let him rest.
Stacie had a lot of appointments, so I stayed home with him. We watched a movie and then took the dogs to the dog park. There is a food truck I’ve wanted to try for a while, but since I work in Kent and they are in Seattle I haven’t been able to. I decided to take Sennet to the truck for lunch.
The food truck is called Where Ya At Matt? and it’s run by a New Orleans native and serves po’ boys, muffulettas, jambalaya, red beans & rice, gumbo, shrimp & grits, corn bread, beignets, sweet potato pie, and pecan pie.
Today they were parked down in the Starbucks building parking lot so we drove down there around 11:30. (A funny coincidence: as we were driving down Jackson past Rainier we passed by Phở Bac, a Phở restaurant shaped like a ship that I had taken Sennet to a couple times, but not for almost a year. He immediately said, “Hey, It’s the Phở boat! I like Phở.” I was quite impressed by his memory.)
Once we got down to Matt’s food truck we were pleased to see almost no line since we had beat the lunch rush by about half an hour. I ordered an oyster po’ boy and Sennet only wanted corn bread. I also got us three beignets. We ate at a picnic table nearby in the sun, it was pretty nice – you could tell spring was trying to make an appearance.
We took the beignets home and Sennet ate his after his nap. He loved it.
Later on that evening after dinner, Sennet told Stacie that he liked beignets. She asked him what they tasted like and he said, “Chocolate doughnut happy birthday cake!”
