Superbowl Sunday
Busy, busy sunday…
I took Sennet up to The Summit At Snoqualmie on Sunday for his fourth, and last, day of ski lessons. He’s gone every week, and has really improved.
Yesterday was also the first morning of skiing where he didn’t want to wake up and get out of bed. Kind of set the tone for the rest of the morning. He was a bit grumpy and when we got to the parking lot he didn’t want to wear his helmet, didn’t want to wear his gloves, absolutely did not want to wear his jacket, and didn’t want to carry his ski poles. Highly annoying for daddy.
I finally got him checked in and set up with his group. I took off and skied on my own for about an hour and then came back to the lodge to see how he was doing. His group was all sitting around the instructor and she was talking to them (but I couldn’t hear what was said). Then she reached out and gave Sennet a big hug. I was worried that he might be having a melt down so I went over to check on him. When I got there I asked him how he was doing? He gave me a big grin and a “thumbs up.” His instructor came over and told me that he was doing awesome, that he was turning and stopping, and the he was ready for the next level up of lessons. That made me pretty happy, but also posed a new question, do we continue with his lessons this year, or pick it up again next season?
I went up into the lodge and watched the rest of his lesson from the deck. He really was doing very well. After the lesson I asked him what he wanted to do and he immediately said, “Keep skiing.” I was thinking that I was going to have to push him up the slope and have him ski down to me, repeat, repeat, like we had done before. Nope, not now. He made his way over to the magic carpet, got on and rode it up to the top, got situated, and skied down to the bottom. I let him do this for the next hour or more. Sometimes he would make it right to the bottom of the magic carpet and was able to get right back on, and sometimes he’d ski off some distance away and I would push him back up to the carpet. It was much easier on me, and I could tell he was having a blast, not only with the skiing, but also being able to do it more for himself and by himself.

When we eventually got back home, it turned out to be a really nice day, so we rode his bike over to the playground and rode around for a while. Then we played some soccer on the tennis courts and finished it up with a cupcake at Café Verité across the street.
He also sang me a bit of the song “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley:

Later that evening, the Seahawks won the Superbowl. Although Sennet was a bit more interested in watching The Backyardigans on the iPad, he still shouted out “Go Hawks!” occasionally. Quite an exciting cap to a long and fun-filled day.
