Mitch (the Cat)
So the cat we found on the front porch just after Thanksgiving has decided to adopt us apparently. “Mitch” has lived with us since that night – mostly staying in Sennet’s room, and almost exclusively upstairs. He is one of the most easy-going cats I’ve ever been around. He is totally fine with Sennet carting him around the room and hallways. He’s not overly thrilled with the dogs, but stands his ground like a trooper. Kaiser now just ignores him for the most part, but Charley is quite intimidated. If Mitch is sitting at the top of the stairs, Kaiser will just walk up past like he’s not there, but Charley will stay on the landing twitching, circling, and whining.
We took Mitch in to a vet to see if he had been chipped, and he had. The vet contacted the place that had placed the chip and got a phone number – which turned out to be disconnected. We posted online and with vets and animal shelters and the Seattle Humane Society, but to no avail. So I guess he’s ours now. Which we are all thrilled about! He’s named after the cat in one of Sennet’s books by Oliver Jeffers called ‘Stuck.’
With the weather getting warmer, Mitch has shown some interest in going outside – even sneaking out the window onto the roof occasionally. We decided to finally let him out and hope that he would come back. We got him a collar and a name tag with our info on it. Stacie let him out about a week ago around noon, and texted me a bit worried that he wasn’t back by late afternoon. That night I got home with Sennet from school about six, and as we walked up the steps Sennet said, “Oh, hi Mitch…” as the cat strolled onto the porch. Since then we’ve let him out every day, and he’s always come back by the evening – sometimes he’s out for just a half hour or so, sometimes all day.
