Aunt D calling…
The other night as I was putting Sennet to bed he suddenly said,
“The phone is ringing!”
I said, “Well, you better go answer it.”
He ran over to his play kitchen and picked up the silver phone and said hello.
“It’s Aunt D!” he shouted.
“What does she have to say?” I asked.
“She said dragon,” replied Sennet. “And birthday cake.”
He danced around the room with the phone to his ear for a bit and then said,
“She’s on a boat.”
“What?” I asked.
“She’s on a boat with grandma.”
“What else?” I enquired.
“She’s painting. She’s getting me koochata!” (This is how he says horchata – the Mexican rice-milk drink, which he loves)
He did a little twirl.
“Aunt D went swimming. At her house.”
More dancing. I told him we needed to pick out what books we wanted to read before bed.
“Well Aunt D is still talking to me!” he said, somewhat crossly.
