Aunt D does it
We took a trip to the other Washington (DC) this week to visit Aunt Denise- it was the first time to DC for all three of us! We realized how much time had passed since Denise had last seen Sennet- nearly two years and it was so great to see Aunt D. Thanks to email, youtube, blogs, etc it doesn’t seem like that much time has gone by! Sennet took to her immediately- probably because she took to him even quicker! On our first night at her place, we were all wiped out from a long travel day but Sennet still found the energy to say “Aunt D does it” when it was time to put on pajamas and story time. Sennet also worked his guilt trip on Denise at bedtime several nights by calling out “Aunt D, Aunt D” when he wasn’t ready for bed and was hoping she would have pity on him.
We had great fun visiting Denise and the sites in DC. But mostly we loved seeing our little guy with his only aunt. My personal favorite outing was when we were at a local park and Sennet started playing “catch” with a 7 year old. The other boy quite obviously didn’t know who Sennet’s aunt was when he was hogging the ball and throwing it a bit too hard at Sennet. I actually thought Denise was going to take him out and quite honestly I would have love to see it! The boy was really pretty cool and shaped up right quick and started to play fairly. I admit it is hard not to interfere in these sort of episodes and was glad to know I wasn’t alone in wanting to smack a kid.
We had a nice date night in the city thanks to Aunt D! Not only did she slip Kevin a bit of cash for our dinner- she didn’t charge us for babysitting! Oh, how I wish we had family in town (assuming babysitting would be free not dinner)! We went to a great Mediterranean place called Zaytinya, walking distance from the White House.
Sennet was great on the flight to DC with only a few minutes of crying. Thank goodness for portable DVD players and Elmo DVDs. Still for us it seemed like constant work to keep him occupied! The flight back wasn’t quite as easy breezy. He cried (screamed really) for about 15 minutes- which isn’t all that much on a 5 hour flight but it seemed like an eternity. Thankfully, the breakdown led to a 2.5 hour nap! We also avoided a complete meltdown (not sure how) after the promised Elmo video was not possible because the DVD player was out of juice because it had not been turned off!!!
And there were lots of firsts this week for Sennet
- First time to sing ABC’s (albeit broken and not perfect but my personal favorite)
- First time to DC
- First time on a subway
- First time with NO nap all day
- First time to sleep in the bed with both of us
- First phad thai
- First green tea frappacino (thanks Aunt D)
- First time at a museum (Museum of Air & Space, and The Museum of Natural History)
