Bike-to-School Day
Wednesday May 6th was National Bike-to-School Day. We got up early and put air in the tires of both our bikes and loaded them onto the car rack. A bunch of his classmates and parents were going to meet up at Wallingford Park, about a mile from his school, and ride in together. We got over there early enough to get some breakfast at a restaurant called Julia’s, just up from the park.
At about 8:30 we went over to the park and met up with everyone. His classmate and good friend Olive was there and very excited to see Sennet. She chased him around the park giving him hugs. Donuts and energy bars were available for everyone, and streamers and pipe cleaners to put on helmets and bikes. All the kids got a clip-on reflector to put on their bike or backpack.
At 9:00 we rolled out and rode as a bunch (some kids, like Olive, rode their scooters) over to the school. There were 48 people in all, bikes and scooters, kids and parents. All the kids got to school without any mishaps, and everyone had a good time. (You can hear Olive narrating, loudly, during the ride…)
