“Christmas time is stupid” ~ Sennet
You might be wondering how a four year old could call Christmas time stupid. First of all, pretty much everything is stupid at the moment. We’re working on that. Lots of time outs, lots of crying, lots of promising “I won’t say it again” as we are putting him in time out…. He isn’t really against Christmas as he is quite looking forward to Santa this year but he HATES being cold. I mean really, really hates it. I am starting to get a bit nervous about his ski lessons in January.
We went to the zoo the other night with Ziya and it was really very cool. The zoo was all lit up with lots of pretty lights and they even have some lights that were animals like monkeys high up in the trees and elk grazing the grass. I would have really liked to walk around and see the entire display but that was not to be. Pretty much as soon as we got there, Sennet starting crying and screaming (in apparent real pain) that he was cold and these lights were stupid and Christmas time was stupid and he wanted to see lights in the summer time and it was stupid to be outside at night (he has a point) when it was cold (all this stupid stuff was in between real sobs of pain and was sometime incoherent) and these lights were not real animals and so those were stupid too. Meanwhile, Ziya is running around (keeping warm) and loved all the lights. We got the boys hot chocolate and that was stupid too because how can you hold hot chocolate when your stupid hands are so cold from stupid winter time. Sob, cry… you go from feeling sorry for him because he is in obvious pain from being cold to wanting to shake him and tell him to run around and get warm and suck it up. And yes he had on gloves, a hat, a sweatshirt, his new (so-called) snow jacket and warm fuzzy snow boots- before you wonder if I had him out there in shorts and a tank top. And yes, it was cold at about 32 degrees but it was a crisp night with no wind.
The zoo has this indoor area that has a play structure so we headed there and it took him about 5 minutes to stop screaming from the pain of being cold and kept saying this is stupid and I want to go home where it is cozy. He did finally warm up and the boys played in there for about 20 minutes and then it was time to go home and get in bed.
Before we went to the zoo, we met for dinner at Zeeks pizza and they gave the kids balls of pizza dough to play with and of course those immediately became poop. Poop guns, poop mustaches, poop balls. It was quite a night.
The next night we went to the Waterfront with Mena (and yes it was cold and yes he had on all the warm clothes again) to The Great Wheel because they were having a Pearl Jam light show- or were suppose to be having a Pearl Jam light show. Pearl Jam played in Seattle last night so it was suppose to be in honor of that… well, the wheel was lit which was cool (it is not lit every night) but there was no Pearl Jam music. Oh well, it was really a perfect night to ride the wheel for the first time. It had been a crisp, sunny day in Seattle and the night view was spectacular. It has been foggy and gray the days leading up to yesterday. Sennet starting crying right away saying he was cold but refrained from calling every little thing stupid. Tonight, just winter time and being outside in the cold was stupid- he has a point. Once we were on the ride and he warmed up, he was fine. Oh, and the conversation immediately was about poop on that ride too. When exactly does this poop phase end?? The kids also rode the carousal- which is partly indoors and nice and toasty- so that worked out well. We had planned to ride the carousal at the zoo but never even got to walk past it. See above and you’ll know why.
notice the pain in his face? he is saying it is too cold to take stupid pictures.
