For the love of… pie.
Sennet and I took Charley and Kaiser to the dog park yesterday, so both could get a little exercise. While we were there, Stacie texted me, “There might be buttermilk pie in the oven.”
I told Sennet that mommy was making pie and he put both hands on his head and shouted, “Oh my gosh!” and began jumping around.
Later, in the car on the way home he blurted out, “I like pie!”
I said, “So do I. Pie is awesome.”
He replied, “Yes it is. It’s amazing!”
So funny…

And then today, at lunch I was trying to convince him to eat chicken & dumpling soup. He asked what it was and I told him soup. He began to cry and said, “I don’t like soup. I don’t want soup.”
I told him it was just chicken and bread basically and that it was really yummy. He continued to cry and I told him if he ate the soup he could have a piece of the buttermilk pie. Stopped crying for a minute and looked at me. Then looked back down at the soup and with a depressed sigh said, “I don’t want soup.” And began to cry again.
This went on for about 15 minutes until I finally convinced him to at least try a spoonful of it. I showed him the pieces of chicken and the dumplings and explained what each one was, and where the carrots and peas were. He said he didn’t want any peas or carrots because he didn’t like them (yeah right, since when?).
He began to slowly eat the soup. I asked him if he liked it and he nodded and said yeah, but he was still pretty tentative. He kept asking what each spoonful was as he held it up before eating it. When he held up a dumpling I said, “Ohhh… that’s a dumpling. That’s my favorite part!”
He looked down at it gloomily, and said, “Pie is my favorite part.”
