Sennet has been taking an after-school basketball class for a few weeks, and we just recently signed him up for a Saturday Basketball practice at the Meadowbrook Community Center. He’s loving it and is learning a lot.

We just redid Sennet’s room- it was time to say adios to the nursery stripes. I actually painted a room white- which is pretty crazy for me but I really wanted lots of patterns and colors with the furniture (all repurposed or purchased from craigslist and given a face lift), carpet and fabrics. I love the way it turned out and I think Sennet does too. We’re still waiting on a few pieces of art I ordered from etsy but for the most part it is ready to go.

The chalkboard above was the Dr Seuss paintings that Sennet sanded and painted. The dresser above is also the same dresser from the baby room that had been red that I painted with some stripes.
I am so bummed I didnt get a before shot of the desk. It was institutional grey with rusted legs. Now it is metallic Orange and white.

This was our first year to attend the annual John Stanford International Move-a-thon- a fundraiser for the PTA. Every kid that participates is entered in a raffle to win a bike as well as a pizza party for the class that raises the most cash. Sennet rode his bike SEVEN miles and was super proud- as were we.

Sennet participated in his first annual balloon drop at JSIS. Apparently, this “drop” started as eggs however many years ago at some point it became a water balloon drop- probably smart. All of the kids from the entire school are given a balloon (to be filled with water) and asked to create anything they want to “protect” the water balloon and all of the creations are tossed from the rooftop of the school while the entire school looks on. This was Sennet’s creation his first year. It is a rocket with lots of Lego men taped on (from old Lego Boxes) and some streamers. The entire creation had to be recyclable (we are recycle nazis in Seattle) and you aren’t allowed to buy anything, etc etc so any idea of an elaborate contraption went out the door.
His balloon busted but he was cool with it.
Sadly, neither of us were able to make it to the drop… but here are a few photos from one of the other parents that was on the rooftop.

Sennet had his first field trip as a kindergartner. Luckily, my schedule opened up at the last minute and I was able to tag along. We walked to the Tilth Garden (about 25 LONG minutes uphill with 26 5/6 year olds) and the kids got to taste herbs, shovel wood chips, lay down a pathway with the woodchips, dig up and eat a carrot from the garden. It was fun and the weather was pure magic for an October day in Seattle
The Tilth Garden leader (Michelle) is asking what is their favorite thing is to eat from the garden and what their favorite bug from the garden is as well! Sennet’s favorite is a worm and carrots.
The gal on the right hand side is Ms Margretta- Sennet’s super awesome English teacher. She seems to have the gift of not only being an inspiring teacher but also being an amazing classroom manager. So far. we feel pretty lucky.
This is Mike- he was our tour guide. He was a bit snarly but honestly the kids in our group (Sennet included) were a bit snarly so it worked well.
