Speech Therapist part 1
Sennet had is first speech evaluation this morning. There is federal funding for children up to three years old who are at least 25% delayed in speech, cognitive, etc. The R.N. who did the evaluation said that on the “test” criteria she was using for the initial evaluation, Sennet would NOT qualify (not even close which is comforting and not at the same time). The standard test gives “points” for comprehension as well as verbal communication. She said that there is an additional evaluation we can do with a speech therapist where the criteria is a bit more selective and is more geared towards use of words rather than comprehension. Our healthcare does not cover any speech therapy whatsoever so it would be nice to qualify for grants if Sennet indeed needs therapy. The R.N. said that she was not worried and he is only slightly concerned about his spoken words but that his use of signs makes up for those concerns. We have another eval set for next week and during this appointment there will be a speech therapist at the meeting so we hope to have a more complete answer of Sennet’s needs and also potential funding available for any therapies needed.
