Tortuga!
Took Sennet out on Lake Washington in the kayak again on Sunday morning. We put in at the little beach area near the swimming platforms at Madrona Beach. He was really into it this time. Last time he seemed to like it, but was still getting used to it. This time he had it down, asking me to “go too far” meaning he wanted to go way up the shoreline. We skirted the shore and kayaked through the reeds growing out of the water. He pulled seaweed up from the shallows and ran his hands through the water as I paddled. After going north for about 45 minutes we reversed course and finally ended up near the Leschi Marina. As we were moving past the logbooms, we spotted a couple turtles sunning themselves on the smooth wooden logs. Sennet pointed and yelled, “Tortuga!” I steered us over to the booms and we scraped along the logs until we were right on top of the turtles. One of them immediately dove into the water, but the other just sat there and stared at us. He seemed a little peeved at the disruption of his nap, but he remained where he was. We’ll call him Paul.
