Track and Field
Sennet has been going to a track and field camp this week, sponsored by the University of Washington. His best friend, Chais, is also doing a (separate) track camp and told us about an open track meet on Wednesday of this week. We drove up north to the Shoreline Stadium so Sennet could join the track meet with Chais.
The kids had a blast running and playing with each other. Sennet ran the 100 meter sprint, the 50 meter sprint, threw the turbo-javelin, and ran the 200 meter sprint.
He came in first, by a wide margin, in his first race – the 100 meter.
(That’s him winning, in the picture above, with Chais coming in second in the grey shirt.)
He finished second (by a hair) in the 50 meter – he kept looking over at the other runners instead of powering through the finish.

We think he probably came in second or third in the 200 meter, but we left before we found out the final times on that and the javelin. The 200 meter had two heats in his age group (5-6 year olds) so we don’t know where he ended up. He started fast but faded a bit at the end and finished second in his heat.
It took a while to have them sort out the times and medals and such, which is why we left before it was all finished. Sennet was pretty tired (but still wanted to run the mile run/jog… we told him maybe next time). He did go home with two medals and was pretty jazzed. Not too shabby for his first track meet.
UPDATE: I looked online and found out Sennet came in 5th in the turbo-javelin, and 3rd in the 200-meter.
