Seattle has a water taxi service that runs from downtown across Elliot Bay to West Seattle and Vashon Island. On Sunday we met up with Mena and her parents and took the water taxi over to West Seattle (free for the kids, $4 for adults) and then walked north around the point to Alki Beach. The kiddos loved the boat, and loved digging in the sand for shells and rocks and running from the surf.
